HI Joy...I still use the nose to fingers measure when approximating yardage!
I worked in a fabric store during my high school and college years. I learned there that when purchasing fabric you can get a good estimate of the number of yards on the bolt by counting the folds along the top of the bolt.
Two folds is approximately one yard.
this is helpful when you are unsure if there will be enough fabric for a project and you don't want to have the clerk measure needlessly.
A noodle shuffle is a great way for quilters and people interested in quilting to swap Noodles (2-1/2 inch strips of fabric). Members of a noodle shuffle send each other fabric to use in their quilts.
