Hi cobrajetjohn, Your comments about the Christmas shuffles - whether 1 or 2 are very good. Maybe others who have bought both could also give an idea of what they would like to do - it may help come up with the best plan. I havent bought mine yet, so dont feel I can make that decision. However I would probably participate in only 1 Christmas one.
I liked the size of the last one also.

Joyce when you say it cost $25 more than you expected - I presume you mean that the total cost was more than $25, or did you mean you paid $25 which was more than you expected. Do you understand my question - dont know how to word it clearer.

As always you and PJ are doing a fantastic job.

Bi-monthly is good with me. And I would enclose extra for the extra postage. If it cost 25.00 to ship it from Australia, what did it cost to get it there? I believe there were 28 participants, so would that mean an extra $2.00 each would cover it? (I realize the # changes each time but I think will be fairly constant, or close.
I have already bought my 2 Xmas fabrics, but can always use one in my stash, but maybe instead of saying santa and trees, and xmas red, white, or green we could just combine it and send either. I also agree the kids one could wait until January.
The size in July was good, lets keep it that way, then we can preplan our purchases.
The batik idea is great (although it is a little more money, but too beautiful to miss), and I also like oriental, and african prints.Maybe one month have a garage sale and just exchange without a theme.
I'm in just let me know the rules! Thanks for doing a great job. Pat Castonguay

    I vote yes to bi-monthly

I vote OF COURSE! for helping with international shipping costs

I vote yes its ok to put october and november together

What would I like to see happen with noodle shuffle? I would like to see everyone have a chance to participate. I would like to see everyone make something incredible to mark this place in their life that brought us all together in one place, Creative-quilting.com.

Besides that I hope we can keep it going for a long time. I think it is a great idea and like all ideas has some bugs that need to be worked out. Once that happens it should be more fun, less hassle. Thats a good thing.

    Happy quilting everyone,
    Anna

I Vote: Bi-monthly Shipping Money: Yes,I put a little something in this one September: Please keep as is material, bought! October/November: Big into Halloween prints/not so much into Thanksgiving prints so my answer would be it's ok to skip Thanksgiving material. I to would prefer Christmas prints At some point I'd love to swap Batiks! Children's prints are of no intrest to me. Wasn't asked but I would prefer to keep the same size can do more with this size. 4-6 would be fine this one cost me about $45.00 Like the others I'll so with what ever works for the group. Thanks a million for your efforts! Suzyq.2

I vote Bi-monthly. It will take me while to consider what to do with them once I have lived with them for a while.
But as some of us have already purchased in advance and were looking forward to Christmas we could perhaps do two Christmas ones 6 weeks apart before beginning of December. Fabrics could be used for gifts for family then.
Then have the childrens one in January/February and go on from there.

Once we get a total of those in the August Shuffle we can give out the amounts needed and they could be on their way pretty quickly, so let us know if wish to be in it, if you have not decided yet. I am away until the 30th August but the mail will be kept at the Post Office until I return. PJ will have returned and will be able to let you know the total. Then I could get them off early September and have them back to you.

I would like to still do the collection and sending off of parcel (which by the way has already arrived in USA. The parcel from Australia only took 3 days to get to PJ so was worth the cost. Any help with postage will be good its just that it happened to cost $25 more than I thought I would need to spend. Our Noodles for Australia are on their way and should arrive here about the 7th. Way to go, Australia Post.

I hope we come up with a good lot of shuffle ideas as it is the most enjoyable thing I have done in years and I want it to work for everyone. It was PJ's idea and I want it to be a big success for her. Her spirit is amazing and I have loved being in contact with her on a regular basis. She has taught me so much computer stuff. I have been introduced to her family and now my family of friends is even bigger. Joyce

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-03 19:41:16-04
    Hello Noodle Shuffle Friends,

I agree that the bi-monthly shuffle idea is good idea. It will allow for more time for each member to create something with their noodles, and alow for more time to shop and ship the fabric.
As for me it was not alot of work for the shuffle. It was rather easy and fun! It just got intresting when family issues came about this month.
The cost! Oh my I don't think Joyce or I expected it to cost so much. Just to give you an idea on the shipping some members paid

    (US Dollars)
$3.00 to $6.00 just to ship here in the US.
Canada members spent upward of $15 to $20 to ship their noodles to me. So I will not be expecting you to get a tracking number!! You can if you feel safer that way but for cost...I will no longer require you to ship your fabric that way.

I am not sure what Joyce spent to ship to the US.
The noodles going to Joyce was $40.00 to ship. I am sure she spent more as I only needed to ship 9 lots. So I agree with Joyce on asking for help with shipping. We will have to work out how much/how and all the little details.

The idea of putting October and November together, I am not sure how I feel about that at this time. I will need more imput from the noodle members before making that decision.

So lets hear what everyone has to say on these topics!
Joyce and I love when you all get involved in the decision on the shuffles. Good or Negative lets hear it!!

Thank You From Momma & P.J.

  • Thank You From Momma & P.J. - 2007-08-03 17:46:44-04
A simple act of kindness can change a person's whole day.
What was once dark, dismal, and gray, you can make gay.
It doesn't take much effort to impart something magnificent.
I must tell you that a kind word has much force, far from insignificant.

A simple act of kindness can be the difference between roads traveled,
for instance, to a troubled person needing a lift out of sinking gravel.
If you could save a life or a soul by giving a heartfelt greeting, I know you would.
Or, stop to say: Are you okay? to a soul that was needing.

    A simple act of kindness can put color back into a grimacing face;
Move someone from self-destruction and self-hate,
So they can find redemption in God's loving grace.
It need not be your life's work, but it can give worth to someone else's life:
Turn away from strife to a place where hope is rife.

    A simple act of kindness can bridge the chasm between enemies;
Put aside pride and ambition so children can grow with fonder memories.
Our differences are so minute when likenesses are tallied,
That comforting a sick child is salient, no matter creed or malady.

    A simple act of kindness can bring distance short;
When families are vexed and mouths speak of tort.
The irony of our Human frailties can be abated with kindness,

Everyone here on Creative Quilting has been a huge support when ever someone has a joy to share, or a trial in their life. I personally want to thank everyone for their kind words of support and their prayers.

The prayers have helped in moments that you may never know of. But during this time, God's love was around our family.

Momma sends a personal Thank You! As your post show that you consider her a great part of the Creative Quilting family. Please continue to keep Momma in your prayers as she is still back home taking care of all the final things for her late father.

    Signed with Love,
    P.J. Momma

I also think a little extra time to decide what to do with the noodles would be great A bit thankyou for all your great effort in getting the shuffle underway.

OOPS !!!! Sorry there I go with the caps lock again

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-02 17:09:30-04
You are lucky with the cost of fabric . Down here Australia it starts at $22.00 a metre. LOL I really can't remember the postage . That is why I didn't join all the swaps that and time. I like most work full time and have a back log of quilts. But there is no way I was going to miss the fun ! Can't wait to recieve my 1st lot. I too have already bought for future swaps. Cheers

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-02 14:42:21-04
I also agree that every other month would be good. Being from Canada and working full time, it is sometimes hard to get time and money for the fabric. Most cotton here is about $10. a meter so it cost me
close to $20 for the fabric , then $7. to mail, then another $4.00 us postage stamps for return, so it's over $30. But it is fun and I can't wait to see the first lot of fabric. Just don't change the topics, as I have already bought some of my fabrics ahead. I will send extra postage stamps next time to help with the cost, I have no trouble getting us postage, my neighbor has a post box in Niagara Falls, NY.

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-02 11:42:43-04
Hi all, I think that 2 or 3 shuffles a year would be enough for me. I would'nt be participating every month or even every 2 months. I also think that we should take turns to host the shuffles. No reason why J and P should have to do them every time. They have done the hard work by organising the initial Shuffle, so future ones shouldn't be difficult. Nobody should be out of pocket either.
    Cheers, Elly

    Hi Joyce,
Bi-monthly will be fine by me if that is what the consensu is. Since I will be sending my noodles from Canada, I would prefer to send US $ since buying US stamps would be difficult since I would have to cross the river to buy same.

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-01 21:45:30-04
Hi Joyce, Ditto from me. I was already thinking bi monthly may be more workable, as then one lot should be finished shuffling before we need to start considering being organised for the next. It is difficult to be thinking about August's when July's is still a way off being finalised, let alone the sewing. It will also be more helpful for those who cant afford that much money so often, to not have to miss out.
We all need to know our parcel is secure going across the waves, so as that postage is expensive we definitely need to help out. Maybe the total costs to you two could be worked out and then we can come to some agreement re how to help with your costs. An extra couple of dollars each or whatever is a small amount to pay to enjoy the activity.
You both are doing a brilliant job.
    Marilyn
Second shuffle postponed to September would suit me fine if that is the decision reached.

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-01 21:14:52-04
Hi Joyce I couldn't agree more with everyone. I'd even be happy to do one every 3 mths. I think that might give you a bit of time to allow for hold ups and a bit of breathing space for you to sew for yourself. I don't get much time to sew so 3 monthly may not meet with everyones approval. But we don't want you suffering burn out. You and PJ deserve a medal! Don't be shy in asking for help with the postage. There is no reason you should be out of pocket one cent. Not even for the petrol to get to the P.O. you have put in a lot of effort and we appreciate it. Please let us know what the postage was and I am sure money will come your way to cover that cost as well. Cheers Ruth

Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Re:Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-01 19:56:32-04
I'll add my two cents worth here. I would be happy with bi-monthly as well. It is a lot of work and a fair bit of money each time. As much as I would like to have lots of opportunities for new fabric I know I wont be able to do every month because of the cost involved and time to shop for the fabric.
Im glad you let us know it cost a bunch to mail the packages so we can help out next time.
For the most part, I think doing it every second month will still allow us to swap for special occasions like halloween, christmas, valentines day, easter, plus a couple of seasons. That should suit most people just fine.
I will agree to whatever you ladies so gratiously donating your time agree on.
Hugs for all your hard work
    Anna

    Hi Joyce,
I'm with the others, bi monthly suits me fine. It will give us time to actually do something with the noodles. Although I can't wait for them to come, I don't want to start cutting straight away, I want to give the fabric time to 'talk' to me so I know what to do with it. Also the money angle, depending on the fabric, and what postage, it could be $50 a time. I'd rather do 6 a year and do every one than have to pick which ones to miss. Thanks again for all your hard work both of you, and go off and have a nice time in Qld-if the next shuffle ends up being Sept because PJ's caught up with family matters and you're away it doesn't matter. We expect to see pix though.

Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas

  • Future Noodle Shuffle Ideas - 2007-08-01 11:41:42-04
I have been doing a lot of thinking of late on this subject and am asking for input from Noodlers.
    1. As the July Noodle Shuffle has taken so long to get off the ground and into practice. I am thinking perhaps it would not hurt to change to be bi-monthly not monthly. This is just me not PJ, not sure what she thinks yet, but I know has been a lot of work for her and she has a young family.
    2. Postage, was expensive but parcels have gone off, we were hoping for it not to be, but may have to ask for a little help, even $1 or $2 per person would help. If we do not have tracking it is cheaper, but this time we were worried parcels might go astray.
    3. After seeing how long this month took, we have decided not to have a shuffle for December enough costs at that time of year and we are usually all too busy to even think straight then.
    4. I have suggested putting October and November together and just have one Christmas Shuffle, PJ away at the moment so will have to wait for her input.
Just thought I would put this to you all for your input. I still want to Noodle Shuffle just think perhaps monthly a bit too much work and cost for all.
Let me know what your thoughts are. We would still get 6 lots in a year, if we chose to go in all of them. I am really just thinking aloud but need others ideas.

Hello kquilts, I am not sure about this, I thought we had decided to wait until the first lot of noodles have been received and then we will have a better idea what the Noodlers would prefer. We will ask for input on this we won't make a decision without asking everyone what they would prefer.
The 4 1/2 size looks really good for the animals also makes for a bigger square if making an eye spy quilt or something similar.
We will be asking you all to make the decision.
Perhaps once noodles have been received we could be contacted with ideas. Joyce

Update for P.J.

  • Update for P.J. - 2007-07-29 16:47:45-04
I wanted to say sorry for not being around much the past few weeks my kids and I have been enjoying the summer with fishing, swimming, bar-b-Q's and all the fun things that come with summer.

On thursday my Grandfather, (Momma's Dad) passed away we have been out of state at his house preparing for the funeral and every thing else that comes along with losing a family member.

I am home for a couple of days and will be getting the noodles ready to ship. I will wait untill the last day that I am home then I will ship the noodles. So if your noodles are not here by the time I ship them, It will be after the funeral when I get home that I will deal with any late noodles.

Normaly the funeral would be right away but there has been a delay due to things I can not mention online. SO I want to thank you for all your paticent with me during this noodle shuffle. I have a house sitter so any packages that show up late will be ok as the sitter is here to bring in the mail.

    Signed,
    P.J.
