Anna, I will go along with whatever is chosen. Floral on black is not my favourite but I would certainly use it. I will still participate in the full year and am loving every minute of it. I bought fabric for the six original themes when on holidays but can use it anywhere as I always got 3 yards (found great sales)
Looking forward to the shuffle starting again and to January's theme, so I can get it prepared. I find washing and pressing fabric the worse part of making a quilt.

Where did florals on black come from? That was never in the list of suggestions.

The night us hostesses were having our online meeting and discussing the upcoming years themes, each one of had at least one planned swap that we were really happy about. All that is except PJ. So she was asked, What would be your favorite theme? She said floral on a black background. She had worked hard enough to earn that pick in all of our minds and we knew you gals here would agree. Thats were it came from.

So now that PJ is not participating we have one of two choices to make. Either put back in one of the top 6 themes voted on, or continue with the the floral on black as a tribute to PJ. Lets hear what you all think.

Happy New Years, New Noodle Shuffling Hugs
    Anna

Mail to North Pole (Canada) has arrived. Just received the best christmas present, a huge bag of noodles.
PJ had saved my 2 xmas sets and the kids prints plus I had 2 sets of auctions. So 5 sets of noodles at once. How great is that? I have to rush upstairs and finish the quilt I am working on cause I got so many ideas rushing around in my head for these noodles.
Thanks everyone, looking forward to next year.

Merry Christmas Joyce, Anna and BJ

I will not be able to participate in the Jan/Feb '08 Noodle Shuffle much to my regret, however you can count on me for future swaps.

I really enjoyed my 2007 swaps and have made two lovely quilts. A baby quilt from the September swap and a floral quilt from the August swap. Still waiting on my October and November noodles, however I guess they will be waiting for me when I return home in 2008.

Hope you all have a wonder Christmas with your family and friends and all the best in 2008.

    Helena,

P.S. Looking forward to sending my noodles to Anna in BC, Canada in 2008.

Updated Noodle Shuffle Guidelines for 2008

  • Updated Noodle Shuffle Guidelines for 2008 - 2007-12-21 07:49:08-05
    Guidelines (
      NOT RULES)
    For New Noodle Shuffle Members:

Hello and welcome to the guidelines to help you join in on the fun of sharing fabric from around the globe!!!!

We have tried to post as much information in this one post as possible so new members can scroll through and find the information they are needing without having to go to 15 different posts to get it!!
So it is hoped this helps you learn more about the Noodle Shuffle here on Creative Quilting. If you have any questions, feel free to email the Hostesses at the Forum under noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com (donÂ't forget the hyphen!)

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS A NOODLE?!

Simply said, a noodle is a piece of fabric half the width of whatever fabric you have chosen (usually between 40 - 44 ) and is 4½ inches long. If there is any variance to this, you will be notified in the announcement of that bi-monthly shuffle. (We donÂ't anticipate any changes in 2008.)

At the beginning of the shuffle (around the 1st of the first month of the bi-monthly shuffle), there will be a post as to what kind of noodles are being swapped so everyone is on the same track. It is always interesting to see how many of the same fabrics come up and how each person does something different to make a project of their noodles received in the swap. Swapping fabric from around the world also makes it great for us to see what types of fabrics are available that we may have never been able to see or have the chance to work with.

Each month there will be usually be one fabric color or print to guide us in picking noodles for the swap. Each person will choose a fabric and cut a set amount of noodles (the amount will vary with how many sign up for the Noodle Shuffle). We are asking that you include 4 extra noodles to be used for an auction with your noodle set and a postage paid return envelope (or money to cover it return postage). To keep it simple, the noodles are mailed to one hostess (she will contact you with pertinent information) and she will then sort noodles for each Shuffle member and mail them out to everyone. Once they arrive, Shuffle participants will be able to make their projects and post them here on Creative Quilting. The money that is taken in from the auctions will help to defray the costs of international mailing.

On or around the 15th of the First month of the bi-monthly shuffle, you should receive email sent to the members with current head count, i.e., number of noodles needed for this shuffle. .

Remember you are asked to meet the qualifications in order to participate -- you need to be an active member of Creative Quilting to participate by being active in posting to the Forum (although we are suggesting you can include a friendÂ's noodles if they want to participate for one shuffle to try it out).

WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH NOODLES?

They can be cut into smaller pieces for using the smaller pieces in quilts, such as 2.5 squares

Use them as the whole noodles to make a noodle quilt

Use them in a braided border

Use them in the Tessellating Stars pattern

Use them in log cabin blocks

Use them in a rail fence block

Use them as piano key borders

    Use them in Half-Square Triangles

Use them as diamonds in the LeMoyne Star pattern

Use them in I Spy quilts.

Use them in a Lasagna quilt.

    WHERE DO I SIGN UP?

Please send an email to JHPym, Anna, BJ stating you would like to join the Noodle Shuffle
****Please do not post personal information in the forum thread. Send that information through email****

    Please include in the email:

    Creative Quilting Id Name:
    Current Email:
    Real name and Address:
    Country:
Month of Shuffle you are wanting to join:

    Hostesses to email:
Joyce/JHPym(Australia/Europe), Anna (Canada), or BJ (USA) @
    noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com

    GENERAL PROCESS OF SHUFFLE

The shuffle hostess will check your Profile to see that you meet all requirements:
    1. You are an active paid member of Creative Quilting.
    2. You have been a Creative Quilting member for at least 1 month.
    3. You need to have posted at least 15 times on Creative Quilting to participate in a shuffle to show you are an Â"Active Member.Â"

When you see a shuffle you are interested in joining, send the Hostess of the shuffle an email saying that you want to join. Remember, send the Hostess an email -- don't post the information on the shuffle thread. Please think carefully before you join a shuffle about whether you can truly fulfill your end of the shuffle by the deadline that is given.

WHAT IF I UNEXPECTEDLY CANNOT MAKE THE DEADLINE?

If for any reason whatsoever (and there may be any number of legitimate reasons), you are unable to fulfill your commitment by the swap deadline, please let your Shuffle Hostess know by email, as soon as possible. It is crucial to inform your Hostess as soon as possible!

ANY INSTRUCTIONS ON MAILING THE NOODLES TO MY HOSTESS?

It is helpful if you use delivery confirmation (DC#) or package tracking of some sort when you mail your package. You are then asked to send the tracking number to the Shuffle Hostess so that they can record it and trace the package if it should get lost.

There are two reasons why you might be allowed to skip delivery confirmation:

    1. Some shipping places (like the US Post Office) will not do package tracking/delivery confirmation on packages that are too thin.

    2. If you are mailing to another country, adding package tracking/delivery confirmation can be cost prohibitive.

If you need to skip tracking, please ask for proof of mailing and just keep the receipt from shipping the item. The receipt should have information about where the package is going.

Please use sturdy envelopes (without metal tabs as they cost more!) and tape shut as necessary. We donÂ't want any loose Noodles in mail!!!

Don't forget to include a postage paid self-addressed manila envelope using STAMPS or send a check to the hostess covering postage for returning your Noodles to you.

If you are in a different country than your Hostess, please just add a Â"Travelers CheckÂ" from your bank, with the same amount that you used to ship your noodles.

WHO ARE THE HOSTESSES AND HOW DO I CONTACT THEM?

    JHPym (Australia/Europe)
    Anna (Canada) and
BJ - The Sunshine Quilter (US)

are your Hostesses and will answer any questions about the Noodle Shuffle. Feel free to email them at noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com

For signing up for swaps and receiving newsletters please use this address.
    noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com
**TIP* Just copy the address and paste it in the composed message of your email program.

    DUE DATE -

The Due date is last day of the first month of the bi-monthly Shuffle. Please be sure to mail them early enough so that they are in the HostessÂ's hands by the first week of the second month. If there is a special circumstance and you cannot make the deadline, please email you Hostess as soon as you can; otherwise, the Shuffle will go on without you!

The Hostesses will sort/shuffle the noodles as soon as they get them. When the deadline is reached (i.e., the first week of the second month), they will mail the Noodles out to the other hostesses for swapping and then the noodles will be mailed to you as soon as the exchange has taken place, hopefully before the last week of the second month.

There will be a general deadline of the 15th of the 1st month of the bi-monthly shuffle (i.e., January 15 for the January-February shuffle) to sign up for the shuffle. This will allow us to get a general head count for the current members to start cutting/purchasing fabric. Noodles need to be mailed to the Hostess and received by the due date (1st of the 2nd month of the bi-monthly shuffle. Please feel free to join in and swap/shuffle as often or as little as you would like thru the year!

Send an email to noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com for the mailing address of your Hostess if you have not already had an email from your hostess or if you have any questions!

    WHAT ABOUT QUALITY OF FABRIC?

The fact that each person has their own definition of quality and will see things differently, is the great part of quilting creatively! Everyone will choose the fabric they like and can afford.

We do ask, though, that you send the type of fabric that you would like to receive. Please keep in mind that we are trying to keep it simple without a lot of rules like there would be in a Guild.

This is just a great opportunity to share fabric from around the world and create some really cute projects that we may not have been able to without the shuffle. Our goal is to make this FUN and FAIRLY EASY with AS FEW guidelines AS POSSIBLE,so everyone from around the globe can share our quilting passion.

We donÂ't want everyone running to RULES before they choose to share fabric. That is why we have made these GUIDELINES. Other than working out the shipping kinks, this should be FUN and exciting experience for everyone.

Please keep in mind there are Advanced Quilters, Intermediate Quilters, Teachers, Novices/Beginners joining in on the Shuffle. You are asked to please keep in mind that not every one knows everything and this is a great learning experience for many of us.

Please use your best judgment when choose and sharing fabric. There will so many people from different backgrounds that we want to keep it interesting and fun.

So letÂ's get together and Shuffle some Noodles!!!!

    Joyce/JHPym, Anna, and BJ Malecha

Exciting Noodle Shuffle 2008

  • Exciting Noodle Shuffle 2008 - 2007-12-18 10:50:47-05
    Hi Quilters/NOODLENIKS!

WE know we haven't finished the Holiday Season for 2007 but we thought it might be good to start the year right with a little message of what is to come in 2008. Y

our Noodle Queens have decided on bimonthly noodle shuffles for 2008. This will allow more time for international shipping. It is very expensive to send any other way than snailmail (and you know how long it takes a snail just to get across the sidewalk, imagine from the US to Australia!

So, what can you expect next year?! Lots more fun! We have decided to have a double shuffle in July with Christmas fabrics. One will be metallic/glitter and the other tone-on-tone. Other topics in no particular order are reproductions from 1930s, florals on black, country/farms, brights. Oh, and our January kickoff is Beach/Under the Sea! By giving you the topics of future shuffles now, we hope you can take advantage of any sales you come across. We suggest 2½ yards/metres to make sure you have enough to cover each shuffle, including 4 extra noodles for the auction. We can all use extra fabrics for our stash if it all is not needed, right?! We have some other surprises in store for you, so continue watching for our emails!

We expect to have an exciting year in 2008 and hope you will ALL join us in the Shuffles. If you have friends that are not members as yet, why not have them stick in an extra set of noodles with yours and see what they get? Maybe it will entice them to join Creative-Quilting too! Just indicate to us that you will be doing so when you register.

We are presently working on some flyers that you will be able to print out and leave at your favorite quilt shops that will hopefully entice folks to join Creative-Quilting as well. If you have any other ideas how we can get new members for both Creative Quilting and the Noodle Shuffles, please email us and let us know! We welcome your input on everything!

Anna, Joyce, and I look forward to working with you during the coming year. We are trying to do what we can make the Shuffles more efficient and timely.

JANUARY/FEBRUARY SHUFFLE - BEACH/UNDER THE SEA - You can sign up at any time from now until January 15. You will have from January 15 until January 31 to get the noodles in the mail to your hostesses. It is the intention of the hostesses to get a personal note to you within a week of your signing up to acknowledge your registration and to give you more details on the shuffle. The noodles should be received by the hostesses by the 15th of the following month and all mailings will occur the week after that to ensure you have the noodles in your hands by the end of the second month. If you have questions, contact us!

Thanks for all your past support and we look forward to working with you in 2008!

    Happy Holidays!

I would like to do a similar page for the first birthday of CQ. So, send in your word/words (short - similar to PJ's comments) If there are enough,I will gather them and compile. (Not my postcard - I will do that as well).

Thanks for your contributions to these.

You have talents to market, get out there in the I T

I see mention of cards to mail,
giving me another brain storm, idea, if anyone has special Birthday, e.g 50th, or Wedding Anni, e.g 25 years, let us all know, it could be a tradition with the Quilting Club, to send cards, home made or printed, to mark a special occasion.

  • Australian and UK - Noodles on way. - 2007-12-14 17:48:54-05
Yesterday I posted a parcel to you each with the Noodles from the October Shuffle and those from Australia and UK for the November Shuffle. As soon as the ones arrive from USA I will get them off as well. I hope they may arrive before Christmas but I guess with it being a busy mail time that they may not get here in time. I will get them off to you as soon as I receive them. Next year we will have the Christmas Noodle Shuffle earlier in the year Christmas in July which is something we do in Australia so as to have a Christmas Dinner when it is cold, but really just, another excuse to Pig out and eat all that Turkey, pudding and cake etc. I suggest at the sales we all start looking for fabric at bargain prices, the theme we were thinking of was Glittery, shiny, metallic fabrics and tone on tones, fabric here is already less 30 percent at Spotlight and will be cheaper again after New Year.
I hope all Noodlers and Non Noodlers (you don't know what you are missing out on) have a very enjoyable and happy, safe, Christmas and New Year and we will be back Noodling again next year with gusto. Cheers JoycePost edited by: JHPym, at: 2007/12/15 00:01

    PJ

I can't believe what my eyes just read. This is your baby and you will be greatly missed.

You've been a driving force here and have great ideas. Not only with the noodles but everywhere. You've taught us so many things in one short year! I know your ideas just flow from your mind. Keep them flowing even if it isn't here.

Wishing you well in whatever your plans may call for. We will always hold you dearly in our hearts.

P J I agree with all that has been said, you undertook a mamoth task in getting the Noodles Shuffle started, with your band of helpers it has worked so well, giving such pleasure to us all.
Although I have only taken part in 1 shuffle, I do enjoy all the Posts re noodles being sent and received. I pick up the sense of excitment from
    everyone.
I wish you well, and that 2008 will be a good year for you and your family.
Looking forward to you popping in soon.
    Bye Jo

PJ You are an inspiration. What wonderful ideas and thoughts flow from you. Thank you for getting us all into the swing of Noodleland enjoyment and anticipation. We know it was you and your enthusiasm that got us all going and I for one will always associate you with noodles . In a nice way!
It has been a joy to chat with you from time to time. You stretched us with quizzes, fed us lots of information, gave us jokes to laugh at. Wow what a contribution.
I wish you well, with less stress and more time to smell the roses . Do hope you pop up here from time to time in chat or adding your ideas. Because we will miss you heaps.

I am sitting here with a tear in my eye, I hope PJ finds time to read some posts from her friends in Noodle Land. Don't forget to leave a message.
If it was not for her, we would never have got the Noodle Shuffle of the ground, and now life takes her in a different direction and she must give Noodling away. I wish the best for her in the future, a life with a little less stress would be good. We will pray that, that happens for her and one day she will pop up in the chat room for visit with us.
I for one will miss my conversations with her, she has a cheeky personality and I will miss that a lot. Joyce

    Hello Everyone,

The hollidays are here along with the stress that comes with them. I want to apologize for not being around the net. I have all the packages ready to go, I will be at the post office Monday to send them out. They will have both October and November noodles in them. And if you won an auction that set will be in there also. I will also be shipping to Aussie. I got way behind and I am extreamly sorry to all of you for that. I am cleaning up my act. I am sending all the extra fabric to BJ so she can get them up for auction in the new year. Along with the new year BJ will be taking my position as USA Noodle Shuffle Hostess. So Please make her feel welcome.

I want to take a moment to say thank you to Joyce, Anna and BJ for supporting me through this stress. You girls are amazing and I know you will have lots of fun in the up coming years holding the noodle shuffles. A special thank you goes out to everyone that has supported the shuffle and help to get it off and running. What an amazing group of women!

I am including my list of Packages being shipped and the names in which I did not get fabric from. I got the message from Cobrajetjohn about shipping late. I will get her noodles sent to BJ and she can see that you all get them in the upcoming year.

Thank you all!! For supporting the Shuffle! I will miss each and every one of you!

And HEY!! Dont forget to bid in the auctions!! Help these girls with the internationa shipping!!!!!!

Sorry to dissapoint you but the fabric stash is mine. I would not let the cat sit on your noodles. They are put away, very far from any furry things, dogs and cats. I am contacting PJ today to get the latest update on the Noodles from October, it will be worth the wait, they are wonderful from here so should be amazing when all together both lots. Joyce
