Guidelines (- NOT RULES)
Hello and welcome to the guidelines to help you join in on the fun of sharing fabric from around the globe!!!!
We have tried to post as much information in this one post as possible so new members can scroll through and find the information they are needing without having to go to 15 different posts to get it!!
So it is hoped this helps you learn more about the Noodle Shuffle here on Creative Quilting. If you have any questions, feel free to email the Hostesses at the Forum under noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com (donÂ't forget the hyphen!)
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS A NOODLE?!
Simply said, a noodle is a piece of fabric half the width of whatever fabric you have chosen (usually between 40 - 44 ) and is 4½ inches long. If there is any variance to this, you will be notified in the announcement of that bi-monthly shuffle. (We donÂ't anticipate any changes in 2008.)
At the beginning of the shuffle (around the 1st of the first month of the bi-monthly shuffle), there will be a post as to what kind of noodles are being swapped so everyone is on the same track. It is always interesting to see how many of the same fabrics come up and how each person does something different to make a project of their noodles received in the swap. Swapping fabric from around the world also makes it great for us to see what types of fabrics are available that we may have never been able to see or have the chance to work with.
Each month there will be usually be one fabric color or print to guide us in picking noodles for the swap. Each person will choose a fabric and cut a set amount of noodles (the amount will vary with how many sign up for the Noodle Shuffle). We are asking that you include 4 extra noodles to be used for an auction with your noodle set and a postage paid return envelope (or money to cover it return postage). To keep it simple, the noodles are mailed to one hostess (she will contact you with pertinent information) and she will then sort noodles for each Shuffle member and mail them out to everyone. Once they arrive, Shuffle participants will be able to make their projects and post them here on Creative Quilting. The money that is taken in from the auctions will help to defray the costs of international mailing.
On or around the 15th of the First month of the bi-monthly shuffle, you should receive email sent to the members with current head count, i.e., number of noodles needed for this shuffle. .
Remember you are asked to meet the qualifications in order to participate -- you need to be an active member of Creative Quilting to participate by being active in posting to the Forum (although we are suggesting you can include a friendÂ's noodles if they want to participate for one shuffle to try it out).
WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH NOODLES?
They can be cut into smaller pieces for using the smaller pieces in quilts, such as 2.5 squares
Use them as the whole noodles to make a noodle quilt
Use them in a braided border
Use them in the Tessellating Stars pattern
Use them in log cabin blocks
Use them in a rail fence block
Use them as piano key borders
Use them in Half-Square Triangles
Use them as diamonds in the LeMoyne Star pattern
Use them in I Spy quilts.
Use them in a Lasagna quilt.

GENERAL PROCESS OF SHUFFLE
The shuffle hostess will check your Profile to see that you meet all requirements:
1. You are an active paid member of Creative Quilting.
2. You have been a Creative Quilting member for at least 1 month.
3. You need to have posted at least 15 times on Creative Quilting to participate in a shuffle to show you are an Â"Active Member.Â"
When you see a shuffle you are interested in joining, send the Hostess of the shuffle an email saying that you want to join. Remember, send the Hostess an email -- don't post the information on the shuffle thread. Please think carefully before you join a shuffle about whether you can truly fulfill your end of the shuffle by the deadline that is given.
WHAT IF I UNEXPECTEDLY CANNOT MAKE THE DEADLINE?
If for any reason whatsoever (and there may be any number of legitimate reasons), you are unable to fulfill your commitment by the swap deadline, please let your Shuffle Hostess know by email, as soon as possible. It is crucial to inform your Hostess as soon as possible!
ANY INSTRUCTIONS ON MAILING THE NOODLES TO MY HOSTESS?
It is helpful if you use delivery confirmation (DC#) or package tracking of some sort when you mail your package. You are then asked to send the tracking number to the Shuffle Hostess so that they can record it and trace the package if it should get lost.
There are two reasons why you might be allowed to skip delivery confirmation:
1. Some shipping places (like the US Post Office) will not do package tracking/delivery confirmation on packages that are too thin.
2. If you are mailing to another country, adding package tracking/delivery confirmation can be cost prohibitive.
If you need to skip tracking, please ask for proof of mailing and just keep the receipt from shipping the item. The receipt should have information about where the package is going.
Please use sturdy envelopes (without metal tabs as they cost more!) and tape shut as necessary. We donÂ't want any loose Noodles in mail!!!
Don't forget to include a postage paid self-addressed manila envelope using STAMPS or send a check to the hostess covering postage for returning your Noodles to you.
If you are in a different country than your Hostess, please just add a Â"Travelers CheckÂ" from your bank, with the same amount that you used to ship your noodles.
WHO ARE THE HOSTESSES AND HOW DO I CONTACT THEM?
JHPym (Australia/Europe)
Anna (Canada) and
BJ - The Sunshine Quilter (US)
are your Hostesses and will answer any questions about the Noodle Shuffle. Feel free to email them at noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com
For signing up for swaps and receiving newsletters please use this address.
noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com
**TIP* Just copy the address and paste it in the composed message of your email program.
DUE DATE -
The Due date is last day of the first month of the bi-monthly Shuffle. Please be sure to mail them early enough so that they are in the HostessÂ's hands by the first week of the second month. If there is a special circumstance and you cannot make the deadline, please email you Hostess as soon as you can; otherwise, the Shuffle will go on without you!
The Hostesses will sort/shuffle the noodles as soon as they get them. When the deadline is reached (i.e., the first week of the second month), they will mail the Noodles out to the other hostesses for swapping and then the noodles will be mailed to you as soon as the exchange has taken place, hopefully before the last week of the second month.
There will be a general deadline of the 15th of the 1st month of the bi-monthly shuffle (i.e., January 15 for the January-February shuffle) to sign up for the shuffle. This will allow us to get a general head count for the current members to start cutting/purchasing fabric. Noodles need to be mailed to the Hostess and received by the due date (1st of the 2nd month of the bi-monthly shuffle. Please feel free to join in and swap/shuffle as often or as little as you would like thru the year!
Send an email to noodleshuffle@creative-quilting.com for the mailing address of your Hostess if you have not already had an email from your hostess or if you have any questions!
WHAT ABOUT QUALITY OF FABRIC?
The fact that each person has their own definition of quality and will see things differently, is the great part of quilting creatively! Everyone will choose the fabric they like and can afford.
We do ask, though, that you send the type of fabric that you would like to receive. Please keep in mind that we are trying to keep it simple without a lot of rules like there would be in a Guild.
This is just a great opportunity to share fabric from around the world and create some really cute projects that we may not have been able to without the shuffle. Our goal is to make this FUN and FAIRLY EASY with AS FEW guidelines AS POSSIBLE,so everyone from around the globe can share our quilting passion.
We donÂ't want everyone running to RULES before they choose to share fabric. That is why we have made these GUIDELINES. Other than working out the shipping kinks, this should be FUN and exciting experience for everyone.
Please keep in mind there are Advanced Quilters, Intermediate Quilters, Teachers, Novices/Beginners joining in on the Shuffle. You are asked to please keep in mind that not every one knows everything and this is a great learning experience for many of us.
Please use your best judgment when choose and sharing fabric. There will so many people from different backgrounds that we want to keep it interesting and fun.
So letÂ's get together and Shuffle some Noodles!!!!
Joyce/JHPym, Anna, and BJ Malecha
A noodle shuffle is a great way for quilters and people interested in quilting to swap Noodles (2-1/2 inch strips of fabric). Members of a noodle shuffle send each other fabric to use in their quilts.
